Most of my thoughts in the order that I thought them while watching the second season of She’s Gotta Have It S2E6 #WhenChickensComeHometoRoost on a sunny Tuesday morning in Southern California while sitting —again-- on my pink, velvet couch. (I’m procrastinating on going to the gym.)
For the slow folk: SPOILER ALERT!!!!!
Nola’s finally going to address the situation with Clorinda. This is overdue.
I loved Nola’s images from the Prince party, but this ad for Ear Wave? Like just throw bright yellow font over the image is a distraction. Looks like a meme. That might be insulting to memes. My bad.
Nola’s going to hang out with Greer. You know, I don’t hang out with any of my exes. Not even the ones that ended on good terms. I’m more one of those’ when I’m done, I’m done’ people. Also, awwww, they’re headed into BAM.
This film of the white dog attacking the black man in the suit is so Civil Rights Movement without the awareness. This is disturbing AF.
Hmmm. Greer makes a decent point about white feminists—and his Mama is white(I think) so he has some more grace for her than most black folk. He points out that they, whit feminists, have room to grow just as black folk have room to grow. He notes how misogyny, transphobia, colorism are still issues that black folks battle with, that we still need to grow from. I’m really big on extending the grace you would like to receive. It’s a fair point.
Greer makes this “joke” about the look on Nola’s face when he introduced her to his new chick. And I’m like wait, cause thatPrince party wasn’t the first time she met ol’ girl. She met her a couple episodes back before the Prince party when he took Nola to her studio. And Nola was fine, and inquisitive. No shade for ol’ girl. And Nola seems to have no issue with him dating her here. I’m so lost. It’s like the writers are trying to manufacture a conflict that doesn’t exist.
I love this scene with the kids sitting on the steps with Skylar doing Virgil’s hair. Very often, adults don’t realize how they messy ish they do trickles down to and affects kids.
Mars is so confusing to me. He’s a great character. But he goes from complete goofball to emotionally connected back to goofball so seamlessly. Like, he asked to be asked to take of his Jordans? I know it’s supposed to be funny, but I woula dried up immediately.
Like, I’m glad that Mars has progressed to cooking. I mean, baby steps and all that. But there’s something a wee bit tragic about a grown man who has only prepared his first meal as an adult and it’s macaroni and cheese from a can.
Clorinda is so shady. How you gonna report your friend’s IG page? Like Mars said, why didn’t she just tell her, “hey, the video you have up is causing an issue with my job”. Wait. She thinks Nola is fake black-pride. Does Clorinda know Nola? And better, does she like her?
Wow, Clorinda, wow. Like, Mars is immature and unfocused. I get it. But if you think he’s essentially trash (ie, “a deadbeat man child”) why are you fucking him, Sis?
Clorinda was pregnant by Mars? This is a horrible way to tell him that. After you just told him he wasn’t sh--. I respect her decision to do what she wants with her body. But ‘I aborted your kid’ to someone that you just finished having sex with isn’t just cruel, it makes her look stupid. He wasn’t good enough to have his kid, you don’t like him or respect him, but you’re having sex with him? Sis. Mars ain’t the only f---ed up person in the room.
Also, men have feelings. I know Mars is wildly imperfect. But he’s not malicious about it. And if she ain’t over what happened between them, then, no, don’t let him stay over and definitely don’t f--- him!
The guy that Cheryl is dating, the one Jamie got beat up, pointed out some Russian dudes as his attackers. Huh? Jamie did this is in the clear. What was the point of this storyline?
Real life Jasmine pops up at Nola’s house with questions that need answers. Skylar is dropping one too many f-bombs. But I’m not all that mad at her questions. Someone should hold Nola accountable for her actions. And yeah. Sky got a point about what’s right vs what’s unpleasant. Ouch.
Decent of Nola to take the responsibility for Skylar being late getting home.
I laughed at how Clorinda got locked out of her own gallery. Chick is horrible. And dude hitting her with the “Ma’am” like she is a total stranger. LOL!
Virgil asking if he’s still supposed to call Jamie “dad” hurt me. And I ain’t nobody’s daddy. Jamie fathered up on him. But Virgil has questions that need answers. Asking if chasing women was worth breaking up the family is a VALID QUESTION that someone needed to ask.
Cheryl came back long before 10 minutes. She was feeling pleasant on that day cause she invited Jamie in.
Jamie’s sorry… after he had Cheryl’s boyfriend assaulted. I mean, I appreciate making amends, but you gonna tell the whole story, Bruh? You gonna atone for everything? Virgil’s plea for his parents to work it out is… hurtful. Somebody had to be the adult in the room, I guess.
Shemecca has returned to the Hot & Trot. On my mama and on my hood, I would never appear there again if what happened to Mecca happened to me. I’m also unclear why she needs to be there. What is so compelling?
Ok. So there’s a fundraiser for Puerto Rico. That’s why Shemecca is there. Was there any foreshadowing of this event? Like a one-liner. Anything? I’m all here for a PSA about Puerto Rico cause what’s happening is messed up. But this is so left field. I’m not saying don’t introduce PR. I’m saying put it in the actual plot of the story.
Mars is going to sing. I’m ready…
OHMIGOD!!!! His voice is beautiful. Is this song a single? Can it be? I would totally download this.
NEXT EPISODE: Season 2, Episode 7
