Y’all were right. I was so happy about Vy getting an offer to expand her business and I should have waited for the contract and the fine print. All that glitters is not gold. Vy has an alternative plan for her own shop, which is cute AF. I hope it works. And if the grocery store man won’t fund it, I hope she will accept her man’s good American money as a down payment.
Hollywood? My heart be still. He broke out a box and told her he would fill it with whatever she wanted. Sir? If you’re hoping your nice fiancé will do filthy and unspeakable things to you, this is absolutely the right way to go about it. You see the look on Vy’s face when Hollywood was talking that grown man talk? She wanted to jump on him right there. Hell, I wanted to jump thru the screen.
Gents, who are reading, take note. This is how you get women to do nasty things that make her blush when she makes your cheese eggs in the AM.
Charli’s reading the paper and Davis, the embarrassment that never ends, is the leading story. He’s acknowledging his outside Baby. Good for him. Charli is about to call the sexy Latino who likes to eat when the sexy white boy pops up. NOLA folk, where is she dining? That place is cute AF.
Sexy white man says he wants to take her out “proper”. Charli says she needs time alone to sort things out. I wanted her to have a romance, but yeah, girl, I feel you. Good answer. *Family Feud voice*
The random that was staying in Ralph Angel’s house has an apology for him. He meant no disrespect. RA says dude can keep his job. Someone gave him a second chance so he will do the same. I guess. You act up at my house, we’re done.
Darla calls. Blue is back with RA, but is supposed to go to her this weekend. They’re trying to do this co-parenting thing and there’s a misunderstanding. It’s Vy’s birthday party and Blue needs to attend. Darla’s disappointed, but they keep it civil.
Nova’s hanging out with Proctor, who’s reminiscing about his youth and spilling some tea: apparently Daddy Boderlone was depressed and walking the fields with a gun thinking to end it all. Proctor came with the line of the night: “ain’t none of us so strong that we can’t find ourselves in dark places.” WELP!!
Vy got on her young people’s wig and a bright dress when Hollywood shows up with his Mama in tow. She surprised him too. Ain’t neither Vy nor Hollywood looking happy to have her. She makes a crack to Hollywood about Violet’s age. I imagine Violet and Mama may be close in age? Oh, and Mama will be staying at the house. Ooh. Does this end well? She has a nice gift for Vy tho: an apron with her business on it. Awww, Mama ain’t so bad.
Vy comes back from her lunch and there’s a surprise party at the house. Remy is there. He and Nola have eyes. Kiki is there too. DO YOU LOVE ME?!?! (Sorry. Couldn’t help it.)
Ohhhh. Ralph Angel’s new lady comes by. They calling themselves “work friends”. Remy and Hollywood are turned all the way around to be up in their business.
What did black people do at parties before the Electric Slide? Soul Train lines?
Nova out drinking alone. It was just a matter of time before Remy wandered over. These two. Looking all kinds of obvious and inappropriate. Remy talking about he got moves and come dance. Nova declines. She surprised me. She has more discipline than I thought.
Ralph Angel introduces Blue to his work friend. Blue ain’t with the sh—s. He don’t even speak, and gives her Munchkin Side Eye. Dolled up, work-friend looks like an Asian Darla. RA got a type.
Hollywood’s chatting with Mama, who wants to know how he fits in “to all this”. He says Vy is his soulmate. Sir said, “I can’t help the packaging it comes in or what date is stamped on it.” Mama looked so unimpressed with that line. Mama is concerned that Hollywood is getting wrapped up in Vy’s world, says Vy don’t need a man unless it’s to tell him what to do. Ma’am, get out with this trash advice.
But she means well. Mama is concerned he ain’t having kids and that he isn’t living his dreams. Now that I think about it, what is his dream? Or is he living it? Does loving hard and being loved hard not count as a dream fulfilled? This is great acting. Hollywood looks like a small child here.
RA and wor -friend and Blue are at the store. Blue warmed up to her quick. They run into Darla at the gas station. She looks so hurt. And RA is so unbothered.
Kiki and Mica are smashing faces when Vy interrupts. They needed to be interrupted. There was no room for Jesus between them. He gets a text to hang out at the levy with his new friends. Kiki suggests they stay at the party and hints at some tension with his new group, but no beef tho.
Nova’s cleaning up the dishes when Remy finds his way into the kitchen. Sir. Take a hint. It’s your ex’s Sister. This just ain’t right. He and Nova hold hands and share an intimate moment. Sigh. I knew this wasn’t over.
Proctor and his cane see Charli under a tree and go out to her for a chit chat. My God that shot was beautifully framed. The DP on this show needs a raise. Black people are lit so well.
Anyway, Proctor knows Charli’s going thru it and comes by with some old folk’s words of wisdom. I love old people. Proctor says the love of his life was his second wife. “Your love story doesn’t have to be over”, he says. Hey Now!!! “You can be distracted by your past of focus on your future.” MESSAGE!!!! He been dropping nonstop gems this whole episode.
Side note: I met a woman, a coaching client actually, who paid me, really to coach me. She was in her late 60s, had lived some life and had three husbands. She was telling me about the first one and it took her a second to remember his name. They were married for five years. Life went on long enough for him to become a footnote.
Lawd. I love Hollywood and Vy’s love. He gonna let his Mama and his ego f— up a beautiful thing— and him getting that nasty birthday sex. That lady 60 years old. What makes him think she wants a new name?
He’s off today. He usually has more emotional intelligence than he had tonight. He trying to get some birthday sex (and it ain’t even his birthday) and Vy ain’t down. She is always down. Uh-oh. Vy says all she wants for her birthday is her name.
I felt his speech, I did. I see his point, I do. He needs to be needed. He wants to be needed. But he’s missing the point. He’s complaining that she doesn’t want anything from him— and she’s missing that she just wants his love and his company. He let his mama get in his head. Arrrgghhh!!! That need vs want thing ruins so many good things so unnecessarily. And God bless him, this ain’t even about Hollywood claiming her and feeding his ego with owning someone, he wants her to claim him. He storms out and the look on Vy’s face is tragic? Is this over??? Can’t be. Just a tift. They can recover from this? Right??? I’m triggered.
Charli is on a date with Mexican Bae, whose family is back in Mexico. He says he puts everything into his work to keep his mind off of his family. Charli seems to zone out. Sir asks Charli if she can cook. She laughs. He says it’s ok because his abuela taught him and he would like to invite Charli and cook for her. Homecooked food and chill? She smiles.
Hollywood slept on the sofa and his Mama noticed. She wants to know what happened. Hollywood explains they’re beefing over the name change. Mama backs him away from the ledge and basically tells him to drop it and focus on getting her heart, not her name. “Just because a woman came thru a battle, doesn’t mean she ain’t got no scars,” she says. Welp. Mama’s all right with me. It was a little touchy at the beginning, but she’s welcome to stay by me next time she’s in town.
Hollywood walks in Vy’s Office with an apology and a new perspective. All right now. We back in business. Vy’s got a compromise. She’ll do a big wedding. Hollywood just cheesing. I ain’t never seen a man so eager to spend his money— and he got a lot of it? Where did they make this model? Point me to the factory. I will cross the hills and mountains between us. I want one of these fresh off the line.
Darla comes by to get Blue. Her and Ralph Angel are the awkwardest. Darla wants a schedule for Blue. She’s pissed about ol’ girl, and him moving on. Womp!
Charli’s PI has news. There’s a government lease project coming to their area. In short, the government wants to build a jail, the Landry’s are selling their property for it, and the Borderlone property, which is right in the middle of Landry land, is holding up the deal. Oh, dear. The Landrys or the US government are coming after their land. Fuggggggggggg. I trust Charli and Nova to figure this out. Strategy ain’t Ra’s strong suit.
