I have tried to watch Power S5 EP2 three prior times. It’s not holding my attention. I do this every season. I never like the early episodes. By the end of the season, I’m screaming about how brilliant everything is. This is the way of the writer’s room apparently.
Anyway. Some of the Jimenez goons and some of the goons who work for the guy that Tommy works for are at the docks bringing in their illegal narcotics. PLEASE NOTE: no black people are present. Drug selling is not the sole domain of the blacks.
There’s been in a misunderstanding it seems. Only one cartel(?) can use this particular port to bring in drugs. There’s a dramatic shoot out that leaves two of the men who work for Tommy’s boss dead. Is it bad I don’t care?
Tasha is in Reina’s room having a breakdown over Reina’s murder. She’s crying loud enough for the whole house to hear her. Finally, someone is mourning that dead child. It’s past time.
At work, Angela and her team got wind of the killing of the head of Toros Locos. They have a new case. I also don’t care. But I’m glad that moved on from Ghost and Tommy. Sort of.
Tommy goes by the St. Patrick’s where Kisha is holding down the fort because Tasha’s out of it. Tommy and Kisha are less awkward than usual as they reminisce over Reina’a birth. But then Kisha wants to know where the family was on the day Tasha asked her to be an alibi, and because Tommy is the king of inappropriate, he hits on her a whole 60 seconds after discussing a dead child. He also doesn’t answer her question.
Also, also: Tasha ain’t home because she’s meeting with Angela. Ang wants to know if Tarik can be traced back to the dead cop. And if so, by who.
Ghost and Tommy go to meet with Kanan about the Dre situation. Karan says someone warned Dre. and the three of them stand there trying to decide who. I yell at the screen, “IT WAS TARIK!!!” They cant hear me tho.
Oh, and Kanan got a tarrot card. All three of them did, courtesy of Dre, who works for the Jimenez and warned Ghost not to come for him unless he wants to incur their wrath.
A car pulls up with a screech. It’s Jason Mitchell. Tommy’s boss. He’s mad two of men are dead, his shipment is gone and he’s out 2milli. Guns are drawn. Tommy says he will make it right by securing the port and killing the Jimenez. Jason says everyone will kill the Jimenez, including Kanan and Ghost. So Ghost is back in the drug game and the three amigos are reunited. Ghost calls this a suicide mission.
Dre goes to see Brother Jimenez who is having a threesome. I’m more impressed with the views than his stroke game. What hotel is this?? Is this a hotel? Brother Jimenez busts one, then complains about what happened at the Port and then at a raid. And he’s mad that Dre hasn’t secured the international hotels. Dre’s in over his head.
At Angie’s office, they’re trying to figure out how to figure out how to make the lady’s story about Ghost’s voice work. She didn’t see him, only heard his voice and her story aligns with the description of Ghost’s club. John Mock wonders if he would be dumb enough to kill someone in the back of his club. Um, yes, actually.
At Truth, Ghost and Larenz Tate are going over the fundraising goals for QCP, the community center in the hood. James wants to help. Tate says he’s bad for business right now because folks don’t get why a businessman has a dead daughter. He says James and Tasha should do a press conference. James says he will talk to his wife about it because somehow he thinks Tasha gives AF about anything other than mourning Reina.
Tommy’s leaving his building and finds Old White’s Bestie, Sammy, waiting for him. He ain’t happy with Tommy. He takes him to an autoshop of some sort where one of the kids who tried to abduct Dre is injured and probably dying. Tommy’s in deep sh—. Vincent, who sounds scary, knows what happened and will be pissed that his godson is injured.
Mock goes to see Proctor and convince him for background info on his clients, likely James, in exchange for dropping the pursuit of a censure against him. Proctor isn’t down.
Jamie and Tasha are both at the house, dressed in all black and talking about how they have to run errands. Ghost asks her about a press conference and she flatly says no. They already know who killed Ray Ray. Tasha says she wants to send Tarik to Choate, the private school outside of the city. Ghost says he’ll think about it, but he really doesn’t want the kid out of his sight.
Tarik is talking to his version of Julio who says the priest was killed and he saw it on the news. Dre feigns ignorance. Some guy I don’t recognize but would like to see more of shows up with bad news that I don’t really follow. Dre decides to kill people, but no one can know it was them doing the killing.
James and Kanan are sitting in the car watching Dre. Kana lm offers condolences about Reina and says Tarik is a stand up kid. Ghost gets answers about Tarik’s relationship with Ray Ray. He adds he doesn’t want his life for Tarik and he is out of the game— again— once he kills Dre. *sigh*
John Mock finds Lawyer Terry and serves him so he will testify against Proctor at the censure.
At the St. Patrick house, Tasha is in Reina’s room again. Ghost tells her that no one that can tie Tarik to Ray Ray is around. Tasha wants to go to grief counseling as a couple. Ghost reluctantly agrees.
Angela is at work looking at pictures of a fancy gold gun when she gets a text about Brains. Her boss with the terrible voice knocks on the door to call her for a meeting. The gun was used to kill a couple and the Toros kill. (It’s the couple the Jimenez killed last season. )
Tommy goes to see his dad, who tells him never to tell his wife that he is Old White’s bio kid. Dad chastises Tommy for going behind Vincent’s back and he tells him how to make it right. Tommy says he will fall in line.
In court, Turtle is defending himself against John Mock. He says Mocks has a vendetta against him. This is his third censure hearing. Terry comes in to testify against Turtle. Terry says he didn’t agree with how Turtle handled a case with James and Tommy. Turtle asked Terry if he’s ever compromised himself for a client. Um... does having the sex with Tasha count?
Tommy, Old White’s Bestie and a doctor go to see the dying hitman, who is now dead. Womp. Tommy has to explain two deaths to the Vincent, the HWIC.
Drake’s Baby Goons are driving somewhere and see a Toro. Baby Goon #2 says they should kill him while Baby Goon #3 says that’s probably a bad idea. They go with #2’s plan and pull a drive by.
Tasha and Ghost are at grief counseling at the church of the minister they just met who also did Reina’s funeral. A couple tells the story of their son who was killed by a drunk driver when he was 15. Tasha wants to talk, but Ghost silences her. Later, Ghost calls Tate and says "no" to the press conference. He invites them to come to another event. Oh, and he’s running for governor.
The IT guy who dissed Angela last season swings by to congratulate Angela on her bizarre promotion and he says the IT department needs money.
Also, Angie gets a call from Jamie who is emotionally desperate and wants to hear from her. He is drinking again too. This won't end well.
Baby Goon #2 reports to work pleased with himself for killing the Toro Locos Dude. Dre is unpleased. The cutie, Cristobal, says Dre needs to kill #2 and #3. Dre sees #2 outside and goes full power trip on him. Kanan is sitting in a car nearby watching all the drama.
Angela is in a restaurant listening to Ghost’s voicemail when Tasha walks in and takes a seat. Angela confirms Brains is dead, but there was a burglary ring and if Tarik is implicated that could be a problem.
Dre goes to meet with the Toro Locos and is introduced as the boss. He gets the new boss to confess to killing the Toro Locos that his #2 killed. Or I think that’s what happened. I’m not sure. I’m not invested enough to re-watch to confirm. I’m sorry. This show is confusing. There’s too much plot happening.
Fiddy goes to see some dudes who are expecting Dre to be dead. Kanan says he isn’t but he will be and he’s still planning to take over Tommy’s drug organization. Kanan ain’t sh—, but he is consistent.
Tarik is playing vids in his room when Tasha comes in. Tasha announces he’s going to Choate. Tarik says he is at fault for Reina. Tasha gives him a very mother response. She also wants to know why he didn’t tell her about the other folks who could have been after him. Tarik says he will make better choices. Um. That’s a lie. He ain’t able to make good choices. Good choices ain’t in him.
Tasha and James go to the press conference and Tate puts them on the spot to speak to the press. It was a set up. Tasha goes off. She needed to speak about her daughter and now she’s doing it in front of a mic. This is really sad.
Back at the office, Angela’s bad voice boss has figured out that Tommy is Old White aka Terressi’s kid. This info will someday be relevant. But not yet.
Tommy meets with the HWIC to explain the deaths of the two young hit men. Tommy lies and says he killed Dre. Sammy lies to cover him. Vincent reminds Tommy that his dad is a good man and Tommy should be mindful to keep his good name. After Vincent leaves, Sammy punches Tommy in the face. Twice.
Tasha is pissed after the press conference because she thinks Ghost set her up. Tate comes up and says they were amazing on camera. He gives no f—-s.
Angela has a meeting and says Diego Jimenez killed the couple himself. And that his wife(?) was with him carrying a swaddled baby. Angela says she can get the woman to talk. Umm... no you can’t. That chick ain’t his wife and she is ‘bout that life.
Dre is at Truth with a brown baddie, Quinn. She says there is drama in VIP. Some guy ordered Dom P and won’t pay. It’s Diego. He wants Dre to have the sex with his lady-friend as a thank you. Dre doesn’t want to but goes along with it. Diego comes in to watch and Dre dips.
Ghost is in the club in non club clothes watching the exchange between them.
Angela is at work when James calls her again. She doesn’t answer again. He’s spiraling. He heads to the liquor store the father with the conk mentioned in the grief meeting when describing the man who killed his son. Ghost shanks him in the alley.
Sir? I thought you were leaving your life of crime alone to become an honorable member of society. Guess not.
